There’s a song I grew up with that still makes my heart light up:
“My God is a good God, yes, He is.
He lifts me up; He turns me around.
He sets my feet upon the Solid Rock.”
One summer day in 2024, flying home from a family trip, those words rose up in my spirit as I looked out at the clouds. I couldn’t help but smile. God has been so good to me and my family. And the truth hit me again: God is a good God.
Of course, life doesn’t always feel that way. We see hardships, sickness, loss, or just the struggles of everyday living, and we wonder, Is God really good?
You’re not alone in asking that. Even David cried out, “How long, Lord?” in the Psalms. Yet, no matter what he went through, he always circled back to this truth: God is good.
“The whole earth is filled with the goodness of the Lord.” (Psalm 33:5)
That’s not wishful thinking, it’s reality. His goodness is steady, just as we are confident of the sun being in the same position, day or night, during the dark and gloomy clouds or during the clear blue sky days, so steadfast is His goodness towards you. It doesn’t fade when your situation changes. It doesn’t disappear in hard times.
“He who did not spare His own Son, but gave Him up for us all, how will He not also, along with Him, graciously give us all things?” (Romans 8:32)
God didn’t hold back His best. He gave us Jesus, the greatest gift of all. If He’s already given you that, why would He withhold anything good from you?
“For I know the plans I have for you… plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” (Jeremiah 29:11)
Even when life doesn’t make sense, you can rest in this: God’s plans are for your good.
Remember that lyric—“He sets my feet upon the Solid Rock”? That Rock is Jesus Christ. When the storms of life hit (and they will), He is the foundation that never crumbles.
“Surely goodness and mercy will follow me all the days of my life.” (Psalm 23:6)
That’s not just a hopeful thought; it’s your reality in Christ. You can walk with boldness knowing His goodness is chasing after you, every single day.
Here’s my encouragement: don’t just hold on to His goodness—share it.
“Taste and see that the Lord is good.” (Psalm 34:8)
When you’ve experienced His goodness, you can’t help but want others to experience it too. Sometimes that’s as simple as an encouraging word, a kind action, or pointing someone back to Jesus, the Good Shepherd.
