Leaves the 99 for the One

There’s something so powerful about the heart of God. It’s not distant or generic. It’s deeply personal and not only sees you, but also pursues you.

Jesus paints this picture beautifully in the parable of the lost sheep (Matthew 18:11–14). A shepherd has 100 sheep, but one wanders off. Instead of saying, “Well, at least I still have 99,” he leaves the flock and goes searching for the one that’s missing. And when he finds it? He rejoices! Jesus says, “It is not the will of your Father in heaven that even one of these little ones should perish.”

That’s the Father’s heart. He will leave the 99 for the one, and sometimes that one is you.

John 3:16 reminds us that His love isn’t just in words, it’s in action. He sent His only Son to the cross so that we could be restored. Like the shepherd facing the mountains, Jesus faced the cross for you and me. And when we turn back to Him? Heaven celebrates! Luke 15:7 says, “There is more joy in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine who did not stray.” Imagine—God rejoices over you personally.

This love doesn’t just find us; it frees us. Romans 6:23 says, “The wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.” We don’t earn it—it’s a gift of grace. In Christ, you are a new creation (2 Corinthians 5:17). No more chains of guilt or condemnation, just freedom and a new life in Christ.

Maybe you’ve felt unworthy because of past mistakes. But here’s the truth: Jesus already paid the price. Your debt is cancelled. You are forgiven.

The lost sheep story shows us God’s will clearly—He doesn’t want anyone left behind. Ezekiel 34:11–12 says He personally searches for His sheep and rescues them from where they’re scattered. No one is ever too far gone for God’s love to reach.

That means there’s hope for you, for your loved ones, for anyone who feels lost. If God left the 99 to find you, He’ll do the same for them.

If you feel far from God, hear this: He’s searching for you right now—not to condemn, but to bring you home. And if you’ve already been found, rejoice! You’re living proof of His love.

And if you’re praying for someone still wandering, don’t give up. The Shepherd is on the move. His love is patient, faithful, and unrelenting.

So whether today you’re the “one” or part of the “99,” remember this: God’s love is personal. He rejoices over you. And His desire is that you live fully free in Christ.
