There’s a song I grew up listening to with lyrics that still ring in my heart today: “My God is a good God, yes, He is. He lifts me up; He turns me around. He sets my feet upon The Solid Rock”. I was reminded of this in the summer of 2024 while flying back from a family vacation and looking into the clouds. My heart was filled with awe at how good God has been to me and my family, and then the words “My God Is A Good God” just bubbled up from my spirit.
These simple yet powerful words capture the essence of a profound truth that echoes throughout the Bible—God is Good. But let’s be honest for a moment: there are times when things around us don’t seem to reflect that. We look at our situations, watch the news, face personal struggles, and start to wonder, Is God really good?
It’s okay to have questions. In fact, we see this struggle in scripture—David, in the Psalms, often cried out to God with questions of “Why?” and “How long, Lord?” Yet through it all, he always returned to this truth: God is good.
I remember when the Lord revealed to me what really happens when trials of life, challenges, or attacks beset us. What these trials and challenges come for is the truth that God is a good God. Looking at the world right now with people in lack, economic hardships, people falling sick, and even dying from sickness and diseases, it can be hard to see God as a good God in all of it. Yet, the Bible says, “The whole earth is filled with the goodness of God” Psalm 33:5.
I just want to encourage you today that no matter what’s going on around you, God’s goodness doesn’t change. It is unshakable. His mercy endures forever. It’s not a temporary or fleeting goodness. God’s goodness is eternal, like His mercy and love toward you.
"Oh, give thanks to the Lord, for He is good! For His mercy endures forever." —1 Chronicles 16:34.
His goodness is revealed from creation to the ultimate act of love on the cross. God's goodness is not just an idea; it’s an eternal reality.
God’s Goodness Revealed Through Jesus
If you ever find yourself doubting God’s goodness, I want to share with you one simple but profound truth and encourage you to keep bringing this to remembrance, especially in times of difficulty. The greatest revelation of God’s goodness is found in His love for us. He didn’t just tell us He loves us—He showed it. In Romans 8:32, Paul says, “He who did not spare His own Son, but delivered Him up for us all, how shall He not with Him also freely give us all things?”
If God didn’t hold back Jesus, the greatest gift of all, why would He withhold anything good from you? Christ’s sacrifice on the cross is the ultimate demonstration of God’s goodness, grace, and love. God gave His most precious gift—Jesus—so that we could be reconciled to Him and experience the fullness of His goodness. If He did that for you, what will He withhold? The God who gave up His only Son will graciously provide everything you need. It’s a reminder that even when we don’t understand what’s happening in our lives, God’s plan is still for our good.
Jeremiah 29:11 reassures us: “For I know the plans I have for you,’ declares the Lord, ‘plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you a hope and a future.” This is God’s heart for you—goodness, hope, and a future.
Sometimes, it’s easy to get lost in life's struggles. We look around and see brokenness, unanswered prayers, or the weight of our personal circumstances, and we begin to doubt. But here’s the truth: God’s goodness isn’t dependent on our situation. His goodness is part of who He is, and He cannot change.
Malachi 3:6 says, “I am the Lord; I change not.”
The Solid Rock
Remember those lyrics? “He sets my feet upon The Solid Rock.” Now I know that Solid Rock is Christ Jesus. When the storms of life come—and they will—Jesus is the foundation that will never crumble beneath you. God has placed us in Christ as a firm assurance that His Goodness and Mercy will be ours all the days of our lives (Psalm 23:6). Jesus Christ is your anchor, your firm foundation. You can walk boldly with this assurance as a born-again believer in Christ, that God’s goodness and mercy will always be speaking for you, for the Bible says that “All of God’s promises for us who are in Christ they are our reality.
Psalm 100:5 says, “For the Lord is good; His mercy is everlasting, and His truth endures to all generations.” His goodness is eternal. It didn’t fade when your situation became hard. It wasn’t cancelled because of a difficult season. It’s steady, just like the Rock of Christ we stand on.
An Invitation to Share His Goodness
Here’s a challenge: As you go about your day, think about how you can share God’s goodness with others. Just like the song reminds us of His faithfulness, we are called to remind others of the goodness of God. In the way you speak, the way you treat others, and the way you carry yourself, let the light of God’s goodness shine through you.
In Psalm 34:8, we are invited to “Taste and see that the Lord is good; blessed is the one who takes refuge in Him.” When you’ve experienced the goodness of God, it’s natural to want others to experience it too. Whether it’s through an encouraging word, a helping hand, or a simple conversation, you have the opportunity to point people back to the Good Shepherd—the One who lifts us up and sets our feet on solid ground.
A Daily Reminder of His Love
My prayer for you is that you are constantly reminded of God’s goodness. Every time you reflect on these truths or even wear something that proclaims His goodness, may you be encouraged in your faith. And as you go about your day, I encourage you to share the goodness of God with those around you boldly.
Remember, God is good—not just sometimes, but always. And His goodness is directed toward you, in every season, in every circumstance, He will never leave you, and that He is working all things together for your good.
So, let’s give thanks, let’s rejoice, and let’s stand firm on this unshakable truth: Our God is a Good God, yes He is!
